About

Why “The Nest”?

As a mother myself, I often tell my two young children to ‘come into the nest’ when we cuddle up together, and over time that phrase came to symbolise everything I wanted my care as a midwife to be - safe, nurturing, calm and supportive

A nest is lovingly and carefully built over time; it is where families gather, grow and prepare for what comes next. As a midwife with over fifteen years of clinical experience, I am able to make families feel held, heard and supported as they begin their own journey into parenthood, and eventually spread their wings and fly the nest with confidence.

Why choose me as your midwife?

Every woman and family deserves the time, continuity and personalised care that the modern day maternity system cannot always provide. Supporting women and families throughout their transition to parenthood is one of the greatest honours and requires a deep sense of trust, and at the centre of my midwifery practice is the belief that you should know your midwife and they should know you. I am able to deliver safe, relationship-based and unhurried care that puts you at the centre of your pregnancy and postnatal experience, ensuring that you feel central to decision-making throughout. Midwifery continuity of care has been proven in research to reduce rates of miscarriage, stillbirth, pre-term birth, caesarean, instrumental birth, episiotomy and birth trauma, whilst increasing rates of spontaneous vaginal birth, breastfeeding and birth satisfaction. If you are seeking care that is not just transactional, but that is built on genuine connection, continuity and trust, where you feel heard, respected and supported every step of the way - then look no further.

I have over fifteen years of clinical midwifery experience and have worked across a variety of NHS and Government-funded maternity services including on labour wards, in birth centres and within community midwifery settings. My passion is community midwifery, including attending home births and more recently, I have experience as a senior community midwifery manager and a Professional Midwifery Advocate.

In 2025, I made the decision to become a self-employed midwife which has provided me with a much greater ability to provide continuity of care, support women with their individualised birth choices and empower them to navigate the modern day maternity system. In my role as a senior midwife and Professional Midwifery Advocate, I have considerable experience in supporting women to make informed choices based on best available evidence, birth planning outside of recommended guidance to ensure safe and woman-centred care, birth debriefs and future pregnancy planning. My experience to date also means I understand and have witnessed the constraints of current modern-day maternity systems and practices, and the personalised support that women need to be able to understand and navigate these.

I truly love being a midwife and the privilege of supporting families at this incredibly special and transformational time. Whether you wish to see me throughout your entire pregnancy and postnatal journey, or perhaps just for a one-off appointment, my aim is simple: to provide the kind of maternity care every family hopes for - care that is clinically excellent, deeply personal and centred entirely around you. I am registered with both The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and The Jersey Care Commission (JCC), and hold indemnity insurance to provide both antenatal and postnatal clinical care.

About May

Hi there. I'm May, a Registered Midwife with extensive experience supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. I am also a mum to two young children. I qualified in 2014 from The University of York with a First Class Honours Degree (BA) in Midwifery Practice. I began my midwifery career in York before returning to my hometown of Cambridge, where I worked at the busy and fast-paced Rosie Hospital before becoming a Community Midwife. In 2016, I moved to Jersey and joined the local maternity service, working across both the hospital and community settings.

Alongside my clinical work, I have always been passionate about preparing families for birth through education and ensuring that women's voices are heard. In 2017, I qualified with a diploma in KG Hypnobirthing and founded Positive Birth Jersey, providing private antenatal education to expectant parents across the island. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of supporting over 1,000 families through evidence-based education, helping them prepare for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood with confidence.

In 2019, I founded Jersey Maternity Voices, an independent service-user forum created to ensure that women and families had a meaningful voice in the development and improvement of local maternity services. Working collaboratively with maternity professionals and service users, the group aimed to promote positive change by listening to the experiences of local families and championing safe, excellent and woman-centred care.

In December 2024, I made the decision to resign from the Government of Jersey maternity service and embark on a new and exciting chapter as a self-employed midwife. In 2026, Positive Birth Jersey evolved into The Nest Pregnancy and Parenthood, bringing together our best-selling antenatal education programmes and expanding my services to offer a broader range of personalised private midwifery clinical care.

The Nest was created from a simple belief: every family deserves continuity, kindness, time and truly individualised care. I created The Nest because I wanted to practise the kind of midwifery that first inspired me to join the profession: care built on relationships, continuity and trust. Having the time to truly listen, answer questions without rushing, and get to know the families I care for allows me to provide the personalised support that every woman deserves and needs.

I understand that no two pregnancies are the same, and no two families are the same. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to provide you with balanced, evidence-based information and impartial support, empowering you to make the decisions that feel right for you and your family. To me, your care is not simply a tick-box exercise; it is midwifery as it was always meant to be.

On a personal note, I am married with two young children, both of whom were born at home. When I'm not working, we're usually embracing the chaos of busy family life and renovating our home. I also love year-round sea swimming, travelling and, perhaps most importantly, eating good food!

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of caring for hundreds of families across a wide range of maternity settings, from straightforward pregnancies to more complex care. It has been an incredible privilege to walk alongside so many families at one of the most important times in their lives, and I feel so incredibly lucky to be a midwife. It is not just a job for me, but a vocation and part of my identity.

During my time within Jersey's maternity service, I worked predominantly as a Community Midwife and was proud to serve as Acting Community Midwifery Manager, overseeing the safe provision of community maternity services, including the island's home birth service. This role strengthened my belief that every woman deserves safe, personalised and respectful care, whatever her choices for pregnancy and birth.

My passion for learning has always been central to my practice. Continuous professional development is incredibly important to me, and I strive to remain up to date with both my clinical skills and the latest evidence and midwifery research. Alongside my midwifery degree, I have undertaken further training in biomechanics for birth, acupressure and essential oils for post-dates pregnancy, and I am also a qualified Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner and Baby Massage Instructor.

In 2022, I qualified as a Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA), a role that brings me enormous satisfaction. Supporting women through care planning, shared decision-making and advocacy is something I feel incredibly passionate about. I am also proud to work alongside the local charity Tiny Seeds, supporting their monthly Pregnancy After Infertility and/or Loss Support Group.

Modern maternity services are under increasing pressure, and many women tell me they leave appointments with unanswered questions or feel there simply wasn't enough time. Private midwifery offers something different. It allows me to provide longer appointments, continuity with one familiar midwife, and care that is built around your individual needs, values and preferences.

My approach is calm, compassionate and firmly grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe that informed decision-making, respectful communication and trusting relationships are at the heart of exceptional maternity care. Whether you are seeking additional reassurance in early pregnancy, personalised antenatal care, support with infant feeding, preparation for birth or the opportunity to reflect on your birth experience, my aim is always the same: to ensure you feel listened to, informed and supported.
