Frequently Asked Questions
-
Many families choose private midwifery because they value the additional time, continuity and personalised support that it provides. Rather than seeing different healthcare professionals throughout your pregnancy, you'll have one dedicated midwife who gets to know you, understands your individual circumstances and has the time to answer your questions without feeling rushed.
Appointments are longer and unhurried, allowing us to discuss not only your physical wellbeing but also your emotional wellbeing, your hopes for birth, any concerns you may have and the decisions that matter most to you. I will ensure that you feel informed, confident and supported every step of the way.
Research consistently shows that continuity of midwifery care benefits both women and their babies. The most up-to-date Cochrane Review, which analysed over 18,500 women's experiences across 17 clinical trials, found that women receiving continuity of care from a known midwife were more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth and less likely to experience a caesarean birth, instrumental birth (forceps or ventouse) or an episiotomy. Women also consistently reported a more positive experience of pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.
Whilst private midwifery cannot guarantee a particular birth outcome, having one experienced, kind and passionate midwife who genuinely knows you, understands your preferences and supports you throughout your journey can make a meaningful difference to how informed, confident and supported you feel. Continuity of care allows a trusting relationship to develop over time, with appointments that are unhurried, personalised and centred around what matters most to you and your family. This relationship is one of the reasons continuity of care is recognised internationally as a key component of high-quality maternity care.
Ultimately, choosing a private midwife is an excellent investment in personalised care, continuity and the reassurance of having an experienced, safe and supportive midwife by your side throughout your journey from pregnancy into parenthood.

Most appointments take place at The Women's Health Hub at The Lido. If you prefer, I can also provide many antenatal and postnatal appointments in the comfort of your own home, which many families particularly value during the postnatal period. Please contact me to discuss this further.
-
Yes. I am pleased to offer both antenatal and postnatal care in your own home.
To ensure your records are established correctly, I ask that your first appointment takes place at The Women's Health Hub so that your information can be securely registered on my clinical record system (EMIS). Following this, many appointments can be carried out at home.
There is no additional charge for home visits. If you would like to discuss home-based care, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
-
Absolutely. I encourage you to bring your birth partner whenever possible, although please don't worry if they are unable to attend.
You are also very welcome to bring your children to your appointment. However, for appointments such as birth planning consultations or birth debriefs, you may find it more beneficial to arrange childcare so that you can fully relax and make the most of our time together.
-
Booking is simple. Complete my online booking form and your enquiry will be sent directly to the administration team at The Women's Health Hub, who will register your new client details and contact you to arrange a convenient appointment time.
Alternatively, you are very welcome to contact me directly by emailing hello@thenest.je or midwife@thenest.je
-
Of course. You are welcome to book a single appointment or choose one of my appointment packages, which include three, five or ten appointments.
These packages are flexible and can be used for both antenatal and postnatal appointments, allowing your care to be tailored to your individual needs. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss which option may be most suitable for you.

To ensure you have access to routine maternity screening, ultrasound scans and hospital maternity services, I recommend that all women register their pregnancy with the Government of Jersey Maternity Service as early as possible. This includes attending the initial booking appointment, where your pregnancy is formally registered and routine screening options are discussed. You may also choose to meet with the obstetric team if clinically indicated. This also ensures that, when the time comes to give birth, the maternity team already has access to your pregnancy records and relevant medical information.
Following this initial appointment, many aspects of your ongoing antenatal and postnatal care can be provided by me through The Nest.
Depending on your individual circumstances and preferences, you may choose to have most of your routine antenatal and postnatal appointments with me as your private midwife, with communication and collaboration with the Government maternity team whenever required. Alternatively, you may choose to see both your Government midwife and your private midwife throughout your pregnancy. There is no requirement to choose one or the other - your care can be tailored to what feels right for you.
My aim is to provide personalised, continuous midwifery care throughout your pregnancy and postnatal journey while ensuring you remain connected to local maternity services, including hospital midwives and obstetricians, whenever additional investigations or specialist care are needed.
-
I do not personally perform ultrasound scans and therefore recommend that you remain registered with the Government of Jersey Maternity Service to access your routine pregnancy scans, or any additional recommended ultrasound scans should you choose them.
If you are considering additional private early pregnancy scans or non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), I can discuss the options available and, where appropriate, refer you to my colleagues at The Women's Health Hub.
-
Absolutely.
There is excellent evidence that continuity of midwifery care benefits women with both straightforward and more complex pregnancies. Regardless of your pregnancy's risk status, you are entitled to choose the type of maternity care that feels right for you.
Where consultant input is recommended, I can work alongside your obstetric team to provide personalised midwifery care while ensuring you continue to receive any specialist care that you and your baby may need.
-
Yes. I offer dedicated birth planning consultations to help you understand your options and make informed decisions based on the best available evidence.
Whether you are considering a vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC), planning a caesarean birth, deciding about induction of labour, navigating a diagnosis of Group B Streptococcus (GBS), expecting twins or a breech baby, or have concerns about your baby's growth, I will provide balanced, evidence-based information to support you in making the decisions that feel right for you and your family.
-
Unfortunately, not at present.
There are currently no local or national indemnity insurance providers that enable private midwives to provide intrapartum care in Jersey. This means I am unable to provide care during labour and birth, including attendance at planned freebirths.
I understand that many women value continuity and additional support during labour. If this is something that is important to you, I would be happy to recommend experienced local birth doulas who can provide continuous emotional and practical support throughout labour and birth.
-
Yes, some insurance providers will cover private midwifery care and I would be happy to discuss this further with you. Please note however, that this will depend on your individual policy.
-
Yes.
I am a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC PIN: 14I0498E) and am also registered with the Jersey Care Commission (3672).
I hold full professional indemnity insurance to provide the full range of antenatal and postnatal midwifery care and education offered through The Nest.
The Nest Pregnancy and Parenthood is also registered with The Jersey Financial Services Commission (36789) and The Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner (68272).

We usually recommend beginning the course from around 24 weeks of pregnancy, with most families choosing to start by around 28 weeks.
There is no strict rule, however, and you are welcome to begin earlier or later depending on your circumstances. It is never too late to prepare for a positive birth experience.
-
Absolutely.
Hypnobirthing is about far more than relaxation techniques. Our antenatal course equips you with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to make informed decisions throughout pregnancy and birth, whatever path your journey takes.
Birth is sometimes unpredictable, and plans may change. Understanding your options, feeling confident in your decision-making and knowing how to navigate unexpected situations can make a significant difference to your overall birth experience.
Families consistently tell us that the course was invaluable, regardless of whether they had a spontaneous birth, an induction, a caesarean birth or anything in between.
-
If possible, yes.
Your birth partner may be your husband, wife, partner, parent, sibling, friend or anyone else you have chosen to support you during labour and birth. A knowledgeable, confident birth partner can make an enormous difference to your experience.
If your birth partner is unable to attend one or more sessions, please don't worry. Many women attend independently and still gain enormous benefit from the course.
